Welcome to the Home page of TIME 2000. Do you love mathematics? Do you love helping people learn? Would you like a scholarship to help pay for college? Queens College is pleased to offer TIME 2000: A Math-Teaching Program. This is a full-time undergraduate program specially designed for students who would like to become secondary school mathematics teachers. TIME 2000 will admit up to 30 members of the fall freshman class.

TIME 2000 accepts applications from January through June from graduating high school seniors. Complete a CUNY application and list Queens College as your first choice. Then apply to TIME 2000 online. Transfer students may be eligible. Contact faculty/staff for advisement.

PROFESSOR JIM MATTHEWS DELIVERS THE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE TENTH ANNUAL TIME 2000 CONFERENCE

On Friday, 18 November, TIME 2000 hosted its tenth annual conference, Celebrating Mathematics Teaching. More than 350 high school students with more than 30 teachers attended the conference. Also in attendance were 80 undergraduates, several preservice teachers, and 15 college faculty members. The opening session featured a past president of the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State, Dr. Jim Matthews, professor of mathematics education at Siena College. His exciting and dynamic presentation, “The Magic of Mathematics,” set the tone for an outstanding conference. Local exemplary mathematics teachers made exciting presentations that involved the conference participants in mathematical investigations and explorations. The 80 TIME 2000 undergraduates volunteered to prepare for and assist at the conference. Nine TIME 2000 graduates returned to be on the program and one participated in a panel discussion conducted by Senior Mara Markinson. Texas Instrument TI ‘Nspire handheld devices were raffled at the luncheon.

Congratulations to Ms. Rocio Saborido, high school mathematics teacher at Oceanside High School, undergraduate class of 2003, and graduate class of 2007, for being National Board Certified. This great accomplishment is the result of a highly rigorous process that ranks her in the top tier of outstanding teachers in the United States! TIME 2000 salutes Ms. Saborido!
TIME 2000 FRESHMEN COMPLETE 10- WEEK FIELD WORK AT THE LOUIS ARMSTRONG MIDDLE SCHOOL (LAMS)

On Monday, 5 December, the freshmen completed their required 10-week field work for SEYS 221: The Psychology of Learning Mathematics. Ms. Merna Porter, grade 8 mathematics teacher at LAMS, shared her insights and practices related to motivating students to learn mathematics.
