DAN MEYER DELIVERS THE KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT THE ELEVENTH ANNUAL TIME 2000 CONFERENCE
On Friday, 16 November, TIME 2000 hosted its eleventh annual conference, Celebrating Mathematics Teaching. More than 350 high school students with more than 30 teachers attended the conference. Also in attendance were 80 undergraduates, several preservice teachers, and 10 college faculty members. The opening session featured mathematics educator, Dan Meyer. His most exciting and dynamic presentation, “Win a Guinness World Record and Keep Your Millions Safe with Math,” set the tone for an outstanding conference. Local exemplary mathematics teachers made exciting presentations that involved the conference participants in mathematical investigations and explorations. The 80 TIME 2000 undergraduates volunteered to prepare for and assist at the conference. Ten TIME 2000 graduates returned to be on the program and two participated in a panel discussion conducted by Junior Nerline Hyppolite. Texas Instrument handheld devices were raffled at the luncheon. The Jim and Marilyn Simons Foundation is gratefully acknowledged for funding the conference.
